TRI-COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL: 7

M82 cup started bright and early with the first game being Our Lady Tigers vs. Tri County.  Tri County started out strong with quick give and go plays splitting the Tigers and making us work hard in attempts to gain control. On the field it was clear TC was here for nothing less than a win as all their players went to every ball. Our Tiger defense broke down and was unable to react quick enough to their quick one-two passing which left not just one but 3 plays in which our keeper, Lilian Scott, was left one on one with an offensive TC player. One on one plays for a keeper are difficult no matter what level of play you are in and Miss Scott did her best but was unable to stop them from scoring. A fourth goal from TC was made after our goal kick was not recovered at midfield by our Tigers and TC took advantage of this. They took a shot outside the 18 box and Lilian, Keep, whom was still recovering back to goal, could not stop the ball that went over her head into the net. The brutal first half ended TC 4 to 0 Grant.  Second half started and our Ladies looked a little more awake with slightly more movement to ball.  This showed as TC, although still controlling the game, was not having as many runs as before. Still, our opponents perseverance, good passing,  and desire for more goals led them to score three more goals. With only 10 minutes left, Delaney Cronk (right lateral mid) gets a breakaway run that leaves her one on one with TC’s goalkeeper. Laney dribbled it as close as she could before she gracefully tapped it into TC’s net. This goal brought our Lady Tigers some hope and they picked up the tempo of the game. With only 4 minutes left, once again Delaney Cronk gains the ball and went to get our second goal of the game. Delaney is notorious for what we call “dirty goals” and always coming through when we need it most. The last four minutes our Lady Tigers pushed for more goals as Makayla Cronk, at the time playing left lateral mid, had a couple attempts at goal as well, but unfortunately we picked up pace too late and time was up; leaving the score a hurtful 7 to 2 in favor of Tri County.  A tough loss…yes but we will learn from this, pick up our heads, shake it off , and prepare for our next battle.
