The girls tennis team finished the best season is school history yesterday at the Division 4 state Finals in Kalamazoo.  The Tigers finished with 10 points.  The ladies played their best tennis versus many top seeded teams and representing GRANT with class and pride.  Olivia Keelean at 1S won her first match 6-0 6-0 over Frankenmuth.  She then faced the #5 seed, battling the player from Grosse Ile, toe to toe, in an awesome display of power and shot making.  Jada Zerlaut, at 2S, advanced to the quarter finals winning 6-0 6-1 over Chesaning.  Her next match was vs the #1 seed from Grosse Ile.  She showed her athleticism and court smarts winning 3 games in each set against the top player.  The Tigers 3rd singles player, Kirstyn Throop, had the toughest draw, having to play the #4 seed from Royal Oak Shrine in her first match.  Matching power for power and showing big serves and deft touch, she played almost every game to deuce, but couldn't quite pull off the upset.  Somphomore, Emma Hetler, at 4 singles and the junior, somphomore duo of Kathryn Stong and Sydney Patin at 1 Doubles, both had to face Jackson Lumen Christi in their first matches and battled hard.  Kaitlyn Pascoe and Liberty Pleune were seeded #4 at 3 Doubles and beat Saginaw Nouvel 6-0 6-0 in their first match before losing a tough battle to Monroe St Mary Catholic Central, losing the first set in a tiebreaker.  Grant's 4 Dubs team of Elvira Cruz and Cecilia Ovalle, seeded #6 beat the team from Grosse Point Woods Univeristy of Liggett in their first match advancing to the quarter finals vs the #3 seed from Grosse Ile.  The girls fought back in the second set winning 6-4, but couldn't secure the win in the third set.  The Tigers last flight left playing was their #3 seeded 2 doubles team of seniors Jill Arends and Brooklyn Presler.  The ladies beat Niles Bradywine first and then Portland second to advance to the semifinals.  Playing in their third match of the day vs Traverse City St Francis, the girls came out strong winning the first set 6-4, but their opponents came back to level the match and the Tigers couldn't get back on track falling 6-4 in the third set.  Great season ladies!!!
