The Grant Tigers opened their league play tonight in Central Montcalm against the Hornets. Things started with Grant and Central Montcalm playing point for point until Grant pulled away to win set one 25-22. In set two Central Montcalm took advantage of passing errors by the Tigers and won 25-21. Sets three and four saw Grant dial in and work efficiently as a team. They won set three 25-14 and set four 25-18. A strong show of leadership came from senior middle Kylie Patton with 16 kills followed by senior outside Olivia Keelean with 13 kills. Junior setter Nicole Whan led the offense with 56 assists while adding 8 kills herself. Junior DS Kirstyn Throop and Senior Libero Jill Arends led the team with 4 service aces each. Arends also led the team defensively with 17 digs.
The Tigers boast an early season record of 13-5-1 and undefeated in league play. The Tigers host a home quad Thursday and at the Fruitport tournament on Saturday.
