Grant vs. Newaygo Summary 10-11-19
The Grant Tiger Defense continued to shine in a muddy affair at Ray C. Rynberg Stadium vs. Newaygo. The Tigers came away with a convincing 27-7 victory to reclaim the M-37 trophy!
The Tigers offense stayed with a ground and pound mentality, accumulating 268 yards on 52 carries averaging just over 5 yards per carry. The Tiger ball carriers equally distributed the yardage behind a spirited performance by the offensive line. Orion Evans led the ground attack with 99 yards on 20 carries, with 1 TD. QB Brendan Keelean added 75 yards on 19 carries, with 1 TD. Trevor Lowry added 71 yards on 10 carries, including two touchdowns of 39 yards and 1 yard respectfully.
The Tigers defense was stout in the red zone turning the Lions away 3 out of 4 trips into the red zone. The defense was led by Senior LB Jarret Railling who had 12 tackles, including 4 tackles for loss. Sophomore Treyton Railling had 7 tackles including 1 tackle for loss. Junior Brett Long added 5 tackles with 1 tackle for loss and a pass breakup. Sophomore Brady Jacobs had an interception in the end-zone to stop the Lions attempt at a score.
Coach Geraghty pointed out that tonight’s win was a total team effort. The defensive staff/ players continued to impress. Tonight our offensive line imposed their will on the Newaygo front. “ What a total team effort we had tonight!”. “We have some things fix, but I am extremely happy for these boys, They earned this !”
