Boys Varsity Wrestling vs. Newaygo High School

On Thursday February 7th the Grant Wrestling team traveled to Newaygo for Team Districts.  After watching Holton defeat Newaygo in the first round, Grant faced off against the Red Devils in the finals.  Starting at 103lbs, Grant voided to Holton, Grant then picked up a major decision from Kaiden Pascoe, before Emma Morey, wrestling up a weight class held her Holton opponent to a decision.  Feeding off the energy from the crowd and that match, Grant reeled off 7 straight wins to secure the win.  A pin by Brady Jacobs at 125lbs, a void to Joe Millett, a pin from Jaden Rewa at 135lbs, a come from behind pin from Chase Kazemier at 140lbs, a 4-2 decision from Angel Aleman, a pin from Kollin Knight, and a void to Nolan Corvers at 160lbs iced the dual.  Treyton Railling and Caleb Thompson also received voids to end the score at 55-22.  This is the 4th District Championship in Grant's wrestling history.  Grant will be wrestling Wednesday the 13th at Whitehall against the hosts who are ranked 3rd in the State.

On Saturday February 2nd, the Grant Wrestling team competed in the CSAA Gold and Silver individual conference tournament.  Grant had 4 wrestlers earn honorable mention all conference.  Brady Jacobs defeated his Hesperia opponent in the consolation finals to finish in 3rd place at 125lbs.  Joe Millett at 130lbs, Kyle Williams at 160lbs, and Caleb Thompson at 189lbs all finished in 4th place.  The Tigers wrestle in Newaygo on Thursday February 7th at Newaygo for Team Districts.  Wrestling starts at 5:00, Grant drew the bye and will be competing sometime around 5:30.

The Grant Wrestling team traveled to Chippewa Hills for their final conference matchups.  The Tigers defeated rival Newaygo 66-6, before losing to #4 ranked in the state Chippewa Hills 15-61.  Billy Ostyn, Brady Jacobs, Kyle Williams all won 2 matches on the night.  Kaiden Pascoe, Joe Millett, Chase Kazemier, Angel Aleman, Kollin Knight, Treyton Railling, Nolan Corvers, and Caleb Thompson each picked up victories against Newaygo.  That finishes out the CSAA gold conference dual meet action for Grant with a 4-3 record.  The wrestling team travels this Saturday to the annual Shelby Super Duals.

The Grant Wrestling team competed Saturday January 19th at the Lakeview Individual Tournament.  Grant had 4 wrestlers finish on the podium.  Kaiden Pascoe finished in 3rd place defeating his Reed City opponent 5-1 in consolation finals.  Billy Ostyn finished in 2nd place in the 119lbs weight class.  Billy took a lead going into the second period before getting turned to his back by his Mt. Pleasant oppenent.  Brady Jacobs took home the silver also at 125lbs.  His Kent City opponent scored his 8th and final point with 5 seconds to go in the match to win 8-7.  At 189lbs, Caleb Thompson also finished in 2nd place losing by pin to his Byron Center opponent.  Caleb, down 2 points in the 3rd period, scored a takedown to tie it with 30 seconds to go, but was caught and pinned with 20 seconds on the clock.  The Tigers finished 7th place out of 16 teams.

The Wrestling team lost at Fremont Wednesday night 24-51 in a CSAA conference dual.  Getting wins for the Tigers were Kaiden Pascoe, Billy Ostyn, Brady Jacobs, Joe Millett, and Kyle Williams.  Grant wrestles this weekend in Lakeview in an individual tournament.  JV will wrestle on Friday night, Varsity Saturday morning.  The Tigers are 3-2 in conference action.

On Saturday January 12th, the Grant Wrestling team traveled to Alma for a tough 12 team tournament.  The Tigers started off losing to Mt Pleasant in a dual that came down to the last match 33-45.  The wrestlers then lost to state ranked Alma 9-67.  The grapplers then finished off pool play by defeating Corunna 52-30.  The Tigers finished the day by defeating Leslie 34-27, then losing to Clare 38-31, in another dual that came down the last match.  Junior Billy Ostyn recorded his 100th career win in style with a pin against Clare.  The tigers finished tied for 7th place.  Caleb Thompson went a perfect 5-0 on the day to lead the Tigers.  Billy Ostyn, Kaiden Pascoe, and Kyle Williams each went 4-1 on the day.  Brady Jacobs and Treyton Railling each had 3 victories, while Joe Millett and Nolan Corvers each pitched in 2 wins.  The Wrestling team travels to Fremont on Wednesday January 16th for a conference matchup.

The Tigers wrestling team traveled to Kingsley for a team tournament on Saturday January 5th.  The grapplers opened by losing to eventual runners up Boyne City 33-42, a dual that came down to a back and forth final match.  The tigers came back and defeated Kingsley 60-16 then won on tie breaker criteria 42 (43)-42 against Roscommon.  The Tigers then lost to the tourney champions Gladwin 60-24.  Grant rebounded to defeat Manton 41-36 in the 3rd Place Match.  Billy Ostyn and Chase Kazemier both went an undefeated 5-0.  Brady Jacobs, Kyle Williams, and Caleb Thompson all went 4-1 on the day.  Reece Anes had 3 victories, Emma Morey, Angel Aleman, and Nolan Corvers each pitched in 2 wins.  The Tigers are 10-8 as a team on the year and travel to Fremont on Wednesday the 9th for a conference quad.

On Saturday December 28th the Grant Wrestling team competed in the annual Bruce Train memorial in Central Montcalm.  Grant opened the day by defeating the hosts 54-24, then defeating Fremont B 54-16, before falling to eventual champion Lowell 12-60.  The Tigers bounced back by defeating Owosso 40-39 for a third place finish.  Billy Ostyn and Brady Jacobs both finished the day undefeated.  Joe Millett, Chase Kazemier, and Caleb Thompson all went 3-1.  Emma Morey, Kyle Williams, and Treyton Railling each pitched in 2 victories.  The Wrestling team travels to Kingsley for a team tournament on Saturday January 4th.

Win: 42 - 36
The Grant Tigers wrestling team defeated Reed City 42-36 at home on Wednesday night.  The Tigers followed that up with a 51-18 win over Central Montcalm.  This starts Grant out 2-0 in conference action.  Brady Jacobs (2 pins), Billy Ostyn, Kollin Knight, and Treyton Railling each earned 2 victories on the night.  Chase Kazemier, Emma Morey, Jaden Rewa, Joe Millett, Angel Aleman, Nolan Corvers, Caleb Thompson, and Reece Anes each came away with a victory.  The Tigers travel to Hart this Saturday for an individual tournament.

The Grant Wrestling team opened their season against Orchard View losing 52-18.  The wrestlers regrouped and defeated Montague 40-36.  Getting 2 wins on the night were Billy Ostyn, Joe Millett, and Kaiden Pascoe.  Also picking up wins were Treyton Railling, Brady Jacobs, Jaden Rewa, Angel Aleman, and Reece Anes.  The Tigers travel to Kelloggsville this Saturday for their first team tournament.
